This volume brings together new research by someof the world's leading experts, exploring the artisticproduction and cultural context of Renaissance sculpture from Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise to the small bronzes of Giambologna and his followers. The essays cover a range of sculptural materials and forms to cast fresh light onthe artists, their creative and collaborative processes, andthose who commissioned, owned and responded to their work. The papers were originally presented at a two-day conference at the V&A in November 2010 as part of theRobert H. Smith Renaissance Sculpture Programme
Peta Motture is Senior Curator of Sculpture at the Victoriaand Albert Museum. She has published widely on medievaland later sculpture and co-curated several exhibitions.Emma Jones is a Ph.D candidate at Cambridge University,whose research focuses on the commissioning of sculptureand workshop practice in sixteenth-century Venice.Dimitrios Zikos is an independent art historian. He haspublished extensively on Florentine and Flemish sculptors,and collaborates with the Museo Nazionale del Bargello inFlorence, where he has co-curated several exhibitions.
