The Alps 1900. A Portrait in Color
Agnès Couzy,Sabine Arqué
A charming tour of a bygone era, The Alps 1900 recalls when the first mountain trains and cog railways were carrying men in lederhosen and women in long dresses to the foot of the glacier, when local guides accompanied tourists riding on mules; a time when the first alpinists were considered mad, and skiers were a curiosity.
Agnès Couzy is a writer and mountaineer, and has published many books on the topic of mountains, including Femmes alpinistes (2008), Aiguille du Midi et Vallée Blanche (2003), Briançonnais aux six vallées (2017), Alps/Alpi/Alpen/Alpes (2007), and Voyages dans les Alpes (2007, as a co-author).
