The history of textiles, more than that of any other artefact, is a history of human ingenuity. Anne Massey has written extensively on the history of art and design, and her books include The Independent Group: Modernism and Mass Culture in Britain, 1945–59 (1996); Hollywood Beyond the Screen: Design and Material Culture (2000); Chair (2011); ICA 1946–68 (2014); Dorothy Morland: Making ICA History (2020) and Designing Liners: Interior Design Afloat (2021). Her co-edited books include Pop Art and Design (2017) and Design History & Time: New Temporalities in a Digital Age (2019). She also edited The Blackwell Companion to Contemporary Design (Since 1945) (2019) and is the author of Interior Design Since 1900 in the World of Art series.
