Islamic architecture is known for its intricate work and influence of the regional vernacular. Living in a shadow of violence, Kashmir, like any other region in India, is also home to many historic sites, including mosques and shrines, which have borne the brunt of natural and man-made disasters, and continue to face the apathy of public authorities. Edited by Qamoos Bukhari, Architectural Ornamentation in Shrines & Mosques of Kashmir, with detailed photographs and illustrations, captures the glory of a time gone by, with the hope that it will be preserved for the succeeding generations.

Qamoos Bukhari was born in Srinagar, Kashmir. He studied English Literature at Hindu College, University of Delhi. He is the author of Borderless: The Artisans of Kashmir (2016).Qamoos’s work has appeared in several museum catalogues, and journals including Financial Times, Elle Decor, Marg, and HuffPost. In 2017, he collaborated with INTACH Kashmir Chapter for research and making of this book.
