Fatehpur Sikri: Revisiting Akbar's Masterpiece is an investigation of the genesis and creation of Akbar's great palace complex. Many of the buildings are still in such a good state of repair that they form a convincingly solid background against which to analyse the Great Emperor's principles and beliefs. Exploring the physical architecture of Fatehpur Sikri helps to demystify the happenings within Akbar's court, and the enigma surrounding the habits and customs of a city that was for about fifteen years the glittering centre of one of the richest and most successful empires the world has seen.
Lucy Peck was educated in the UK and is a qualified architect with a degree in Town Planning. She has lived in India for almost ten years, mostly in Delhi, but has travelled extensively in many other parts of the country. She is very interested in urbanism and conservation and has helped with INTACH interpretation projects such as Lodi Gardens’ pamphlets. She is the author of Agra: The Architectural Heritage (Roli Books).
