The first monograph by the art director for leading video game company Blizzard Entertainment Brutal: The Art of Samwise is the first book to reflect all aspects of Samwise's prolific career and includes the most famous characters he's created, including Blizzard's biggest heroes. Samwise's unique art style, which combines the use of bold colors, visual storytelling, and a touch of humor, has been featured around the world and is instantly recognizable to his legions of fans. As senior art director at Blizzard Entertainment, where he's worked since 1991, Samwise has contributed art and art direction to many of Blizzard's games, including some of its biggest franchises (World of Warcraft, StarCraft), and is known as the father and creator of the "Blizzard art style."

SAMWISE, aka Sam Didier, is senior art director at Blizzard Entertainment. He is responsible for dictating the art style of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Heroes of the Storm, as well as for creating artwork for World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Diablo. Samwise's previous books include Grimbeard: Tales of the Last Dwarf and The Last Winter. BROM first made his mark developing and illustrating for TSR's bestselling roleplaying worlds. He has since gone on to lend his distinctive vision to all facets of the creative industries, from novels and games to comics and film. Most recently he's created a series of awardwinning horror novels that he both writes and illustrates: The Plucker (an adult children's book) and The Devil's Rose (a modern Western set in Hell). His latest novel, The Child Thief, is a gritty, nightmarish retelling of the Peter Pan myth. Micky Neilson is a twotime New York Times bestselling author whose graphic novels Ashbringer (#2 on the list) and Pearl of Pandaria (#3) have both been published in six languages. As one of the first writers at Blizzard Entertainment, he has more than two decades of experience on the cutting edge of the gaming industry. Neilson recently published his first original scifi novel, Ridgerunners, and cowrote the illustrated novel Strange Highways.
