The book traces this journey chronologically: from the Colonial era, the Bengal School, and Academic Realism, through the Indigenous Modernists—the Calcutta School, the Bombay School of Art, the Baroda School, Delhi Shilpi Chakra, the Madras School of Arts and Craft —to the Indian Contemporary, alongside International Classical, Post-War, and Contemporary art.

Neeraj Batra is an investment banker, entrepreneur, and art collector. He has co-founded The Associated Art Academy and Great Banyan Art.
Over the past three decades, Neeraj has built his family art collection.
He recently produced and authored The Inner Eye, a publication chronicling his journey as an art collector and offering insights and anecdotes into the evolution of his collecting practice.
