Tagore: An Illustrated Biography
Uma Das Gupta
Tagore: An Illustrated Biography is a richly illustrated and deeply intimate portrait of Rabindranath Tagore, a visionary whose legacy remains indelible in India’s history.
Drawing on rare photographs, artworks, letters and archival material, this book captures the many lives he lived – poet, philosopher, educator and artist – while situating him within the fascinating world of his family. Moving beyond a conventional biography, it explores the ideas that shaped the Nobel Prize laureate’s engagement with the world – nationalism, identity, history and spirituality. From his critique of nationalism to his experiments in education, the book brings into focus a man in constant dialogue with his time – one he carried across Europe, the United States and Asia through his extensive travels and lectures, shaping global conversations.
At once insightful and expansive, this is not only a compelling account of Tagore but also a visual keepsake – for those discovering him for the first time, as well as for those who continue to return to his life and work with lasting interest.
