A unique collection of speeches by international leaders who make and shape India's and South Asia's destiny. The Hindustan Times Leadership Initiative is an important intellectual landmark in the capital. Every year, the country's most respected newspaper gathers together key figures from India and the world to discuss pressing concerns as well as to look at areas of political and economic cooperation. The theme for the Leadership Initiative for 2004 was "India and the World: A Blueprint for Partnership and Growth". Held in New Delhi in November, speakers at the initiative included Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former British Prime Minister John Major, former US Secretary of State Dr Henry Kissinger and Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Over two days the speakers and delegates deliberated on ways to build bridges of economic prosperity and political peace that would benefit not only the South Asia region but the world at large. This volume is a compilation of their speeches, along with the questions and answers that followed. A collection that brings together reflections of some of the finest minds of our times.
